About me

  • Born and raised in Terre Haute, Indiana, a place comedian Steve Martin once called “the armpit of the nation.” I do think Steve Martin needs to get out more — I’ve seen a lot of places more armpitty than Terre Haute. For sure.
  • Attended Auburn University & graduated from the University of Louisville with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. While at Auburn, I played on the women’s varsity tennis team. I have to share that because if you were to take a gander at me now, you would perhaps not think, “Bet she was an NCAA Division 1 athlete.”
  • Previous jobs /positions I’ve had: TV news production assistant (Louisville, KY); university public relations director (Indiana University Southeast); tennis coach at Indiana University Southeast and Greenwood Christian School; newspaper reporter (Index-Journal); children’s home houseparent (Connie Maxwell Children’s Home); church youth director (Northside Baptist Church, Greenwood, SC); writer & graphic designer in University Relations Office at Lander University; member of  Board of Directors at Greenwood Christian School; Women’s Ministry Director and Coordinator of Communication & Ministries at Calvary Chapel Greenwood (SC); Women’s Ministry Director at New Covenant Church (Greenwood, SC)
  • Current activities: Newspaper columnist for Greenwood Index-Journal and Biblical counselor with the Biblical Care Ministry at New Covenant Church (Greenwood, SC)
  • Author of two books – “A Giggle Goes A Long Way” published by Baker Book House (1986); and “Live. Learn. Laugh!” published by Xulon Press (2011)
  • Married to husband, Joe, THE most patient man in the world, since 1977.
  • Two sons: Ryan and Andy; two answers-to-prayer daughters-in-law: Jessi and Janine, and eight of the cutest grandchildren ever to walk the earth: Edda, Walter, Lucy, Levi,  Margot, Sadie, Miles, and Beatrice.
