…look at a tasty dinner served to you in a fine restaurant and assume that the entrée you’re about to enjoy was not prepared by a chef, but was the result of a process whereby ingredients randomly combined, cooked themselves and hopped into an attractive arrangement on your plate (complete with parsley sprigs for presentation)?
…peer into a jewelry store display case and believe that pieces of gold and metal inexplicably joined together, without human intervention, to create watches that accurately record the passage of time?
…hop on a spaceship and blast off toward the moon if NASA scientists told you that there is absolutely no order in the universe and hence, no way to calculate the distance to the moon, how much fuel is needed to get there and back, or the precise speeds and flight paths required to re-enter the earth’s atmosphere without being deep fried?
Of course not. From DNA molecules that serve as blueprints for all living organisms to galaxies being discovered on the frontiers of our known universe, there is order and design within us and all around us.
Design points to a DESIGNER; order shouts, “CREATOR.”
I marvel at the convoluted mental gymnastics practiced by those who futilely argue that God is not the mastermind behind it all.
I recently watched a documentary called “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed” by author, lawyer, screenwriter and actor Ben Stein. “Expelled” exposes the persecution of distinguished scientists who publicly question Darwin’s theory of evolution and dare to advocate “intelligent design” of the universe.
Stein’s film includes interviews with atheistic scientists and educators, among them biologist Richard Dawkins, author of “The God Delusion,” a bestselling book that promotes the notion that a supernatural creator almost certainly does not exist and that faith is delusional.
Stein did not flinch in the presence of the caustic, supremely self-confident Dawkins, hammering the biologist with questions that exposed the foundation of Dawkins’ zealous loyalty to the theory of evolution.
As Dawkins tried to squirm away from Stein’s persistent questioning about the origin of life on Earth, the scientist finally admitted that the only way to explain his theory is to believe that some kind of outside power — probably aliens, he said — “planted” life on our planet.
Let me get this straight. This poster boy for evolutionists and atheists believes that aliens probably sprinkled some kind of life seeds on our planet…but anyone who believes in God is deluded?
Whoa.
It’s not a stretch to understand why some people cling to such theories. It must seem easier to wish God away than to bow their knees to Him. For now. But what about on that day when atheists stand face to face with the God they so vehemently denied and denounced?
As I looked into the angry-looking eyes of Richard Dawkins in “Expelled,” I kept thinking, “I sure wouldn’t want to be you.”
If Dawkins is right and I am wrong, what have I lost in this life? Not a thing.
If I am right and Dawkins is wrong, what has he lost? Everything. He will have chosen an eternity more horrific than anything we can imagine, and rejected a love that is beautiful and fulfilling beyond comprehension.
There is design in our universe. And there is a Designer. If Charles Darwin could speak from the grave, I believe with all my heart he’d be shouting, “I got it wrong.”
“… at the name of Jesus, every knee will bow…” (Philippians 2:10-11)
